Properties
Colorless liquid. Have a special smell. When the temperature is higher than 57℃, it can be miscible with anhydrous ethanol, methanol, benzene, ether, acetone and so on, but insoluble in water. Extremely flammable, its vapor and air can form explosive mixture, in the case of open fire, high heat easily combustion explosion. Contact with an oxidizing agent causes strong reactions and even combustion. In a fire, heated containers are in danger of exploding. Its vapor is heavier than air, can spread to a considerable distance at a lower place, when the fire source will catch fire back.
Process
Benzene was hydrogenated by anhydrous ferric chloride catalyst. Then washed with sodium carbonate solution and distilled to obtain pure cyclohexane.
Industrial use
Used to prepare cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone, caprolactam, adipic acid and nylon 6, etc. Cyclohexane is used primarily in the manufacture of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone (approximately 90%), with further production of adipic acid and caprolactam. They are monomers that produce polyamides. A small amount of industrial, coating solvent, resin, fat, paraffin oil, butyl rubber and other excellent solvent. In addition, cyclohexane is also used in the pharmaceutical industry, for the synthesis of medical intermediates. Cyclohexane is especially suitable for styrene butadiene rubber solvent, its consumption is generally more than 4 times the amount of feed. 90% of cyclohexane is used in the production of cyclohexanone, which is an intermediate product in the production of caprolactam and adipic acid. Also used as general solvent, chromatographic analysis standard material, photoresist solvent and organic synthesis.
